The tight confines and inaccessible nature of steel structure inspection requires the development of a physically small device designed to transport inspection equipment (ultrasonic probes, Video equipment, etc.) on or through the structure. The requirements include the ability to manoeuvre on and around the structure regardless of orientation. It also must be able to accurately map its position on the structure at all times.
The proposed device wjll be comprised of a platform, driven via magnetic tracks, upon which inspection equipment can be mounted. Initially, the platform and inspection equipment will send and receive data/instructions/power via a wiring harness, with the possibility of radio transmission and onboard power to be investigated as time permits.
