The Project:

The Joint-service Active Watch Surveillance Submersible (JAWSS) is a final year engineering design project being completed as part of the mechanical engineering degree program at Dalhousie University, Halifax.

It is intended to be low-cost and effective in a wide range of industrial applications including, but not limited to:

      • underwater examination;
      • damage assessment;
      • confined space operation;
      • environmental inspection;
      • hazardous environment/application operation;
      • ecological observation; and,
      • scientific research.

Ultimately, JAWSS goes where personnel cannot or where it would be hazardous or non-cost-effective to send them. It performs in the cold and in the rough in a simple to operate but effective manner.
