After a marathon rebuild,
some quick redesigning, and a some good fortune, JAWSS makes a second appearance.
The team takes JAWSS
to the DalPlex swimming pool for further testing. This time, JAWSS works nearly
flawlessly.

Apr 05:
Team tests JAWSS onboard
HMCS ATHABASKAN. At a depth of 19ft, we lost all communication with the sub.
When we pulled if up, it was complete filled with water.
Check out the Testing
Section of the website for more details.

Mar 05:
New videos and pictures
from the final build and inspection in the Multimedia
Section.
With a two day extension
on Inspection, the team was able to complete the task at hand.
JAWSS was put into the
tow-tank at Dalhousie and put through her paces.
One ballast to be neutrally
buoyant, JAWSS demonstrated that it was fully capable of perfoming the tasks
that we had designed it to do. We can move her up, down, left, right, forward
and backwards. We can also get a clear video picture on the surface from the
onbard camera.
Our next
goal is to conduct further tests to verify that she meets all our specifications
for speed, depth, endurance, etc. Then we will paint her up and make her pretty.

Mar 05:
Added new photos and
videos from the construction and inital testing phase to the Multimedia
Section. More to follow in the coming days.
During construction,
the dome was fractured; however, we couldn't see they cracks until they got
big enough to cause leaking...
As well, the two servo
motors that pan and tilt the camera were somehow damaged.
Currently waiting on
replacement dome and replacement servo motors. Go Canada Post, Go!
Design Project Inspection
is on Tuesday, 22 Mar 05. The team will be cutting it close, but everything
shoud be ready.
The technicians at Dalhousie
will be machining the hull, the end cap, and the dome in the upcoming week.
The team will also be constructing the horizontal and vertical thruster units
at the same time.
Our goal is to have the
sub in the water for function testing in early February.
The aluminum frame has
been fabricated by the technicians at Dalhousie. It sits awaiting a hull.
Photos coming soon.

The circuit boards are
fully completed and have been received by the team. Preliminary testing indicates
they are all systems go. See Multimedia
page for photos.
The winter semester is
under-full swing and the team has hit the ground running to get JAWSS in the
water as soon as possible.
The plan is to finalize
all design elements and begin fabricating all remaining parts: the hull, the
internal assembly, the thrusters, and the control box.

We've finally reached
the futuristic-sounding year of 2005, but still no flying cars or hover boards...
