Over the course of the 2011/2012 academic year, Group 7 designed, constructed, and tested a power generating speed bump suitable for high volume, low speed traffic zones such as bridge terminals.
The prototype to be built and tested by the end of the term was a proof of concept model. It only represented half of a full system (only one side of a car will drive over it). It is also only suited to one direction of traffic.
Testing was done in a lab setting to simulate cars driving over it repeatedly to generate a power output.
The project was a major success and the team was able to achieve all of their design goals.
